Psychological trauma is an inevitable part of ordinary human experience. Only the lucky ones find emotional trauma unusual. Many people are able to deal with the damage by mourning the losses and moving on. But when trauma is severe, it causes profound and lasting changes in the person. Such “traumatic events are extraordinary, not because they occur rarely, but rather because they overwhelm the ordinary human adaptations to life.” They question basic values of human relationships. The aftermath of severe trauma feels as if the soul itself got lost and now can’t find it’s way back into the body. The recovery from catastrophic trauma involves bearing the unbearable, speaking the unspeakable, and above all, profound hope for healing and recovery of the lost soul.
This class will focus on exploring the link between trauma, faith and the mystical experience of transformation. Participants learn the use of acupuncture protocols to encourage the release of traumatic body states and memories. They’ll also learn the ways to support emotional release that often becomes part of the treatment.
